BUBONIC PLAGUE
NEW SERUM BEING USED. (By Telegraph—Frew Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) SYDNEY, May 13. The Daily Telegraph draws attention to the fact that a new anti plague serum, discovered by a young Sydney doctor, is being used in Sydney and is apparently prov ing a powerful weapon against the Federal authorities and Queensland Government acting under Federal advice refuse to use it. The Telegraph says that of thirty-one cases in Sydney seven have died. Two of these were not treated with toe new serum and only two of the others died aftor being properly treated. One of these was a man of eighty-five whereas in Queensland where the new serum is not employed 64 out of 115 plague patient* died. Though toe discoverer does not claim that the serum is an infallible cure for plague the patiente treated so far being too few for a definite conclusion. The Telegraph contends that larger experience might prove that a cure for the dreaded disease has at last been discovered The Sydney clean city campaign open* to-day. Addresses will be delivered urging on the citizens the necessity for a weekend clean up of all refuse garbage so as to discourage rats. PERTH, May 13. An examination of a dead rat on the Dimboola suggested the negation of plague. The vessel returned to the wharf and is loading for the East.
