THE R.S.A.
• AUCKLAND RESOLUTIONS DISPOSAL OF CANTEEN FUNDS (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 8. The provincial R.S.A. carried unanimously a resolution supporting the proposal that £50,000 on loan from the canteen funds be allocated to provide work for unemployed New Zealand returned soldiers. It also approved of a remit strongly opposing the proposal to hand over canteen funds to the War Funds Council. It resolved to advocate that in future funds derived from Poppy Day be vested in a local committee and expended on useful work in the district, and also to remind the Premier of his promise to induce the Cabinet to subsidise the money collected. A protest by the Soldiers’ Mothers’ Union against selling poppies made in France was unfavourably commented on, it being pointed out that were it not for the sentimental value attached to the poppies they would not give the same result.
