CRICKET

INVERCARGILL CLUB. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. The annual general meeting of the Invercargill Cricket Club was held last night, Mr J. A. Doig presiding over a good attendance of members. The sixty-first annual report of the club read by the secretary was as follows:—It is with pleasure your committee presents its report of the 1920-21 season. Interest in the club is being well maintained. The senior Wednesday team did fairly well, winning a majority of their matches as did the Saturday team. The best batting averages for the Wednesday seniors were:—Jas. Gilbertson 20.8, A. Driscoll 19, H. Gleeson 17.9; Saturday team: H. Gleeson 39, R. Camm 28, Dr Brown and T. R. Abercrombie 21 each. The best bowling for the Wednesday team was: Jas. Gilbertson, 12 wickets for 8.03 runs; Dr Brown, 11—9.6; J. A. Doig, 28—10; J. H. Gilbertson, 16— 10.7. Saturday: Dr Brown, 28—8.7; E. Cooke, 10—14.2; L. E. Bell, 6—10.1. The thanks of he club are due to Messrs J Doig. Jas. Gilbertson and Dr Brown for their attention to the material, and also to Messrs Gleeson, J. H. Gilbertson and Dr Brown for motor cars for country matches. At Easter a team from the club (captained by the genial secretary, Mr Bell) visited the Lakes, playing two matches at Arrowtown, winning both. The cricketers were most hospitably entertained by the good people of Arrowtown, especially by Mr and Mrs Edie, and a very enjoyable and exhilarat-

ing holiday was the unanimous verdict o everybody. Your committee recognises the difficulty of making each season pay for itself when the jirice of material is so high, and regrets a debit balance of £l3, and tenders its sincere and grateful thanks to all

supporters of the club, especially the president, Hon. A. F. Hawke, and also to Mr R. A. Anderson for their handsome donations. Your committee records with regret the death of Mr T. C. Ellis, at Mt. Gambier, for many years a generous supporter of the club and Southland cricket. The committee regrets the illness of Dr Snow, and hopes he may speedily be restored to health. In representative cricket the club was represented by Jas. Gilbertson, H. A. Gleeson, J. A. Doig, R. Camm and T. R. Abercrombie.

On the motion of Mr Doig the report, and balance sheet were adopted. The chairman made complimentary refer-

ence to the work of the secretary and treasurer (Mr Bell) during the past year. He mentioned that Mr Bell had collected some £6O odd in the last 12 months. He was supported in his remarks by others present. The following office-bearers were elected: President, Mr R. A. Anderson; patrons: Hon A. F. Hawke, Messrs T. D. Kingsland, G. F. Watson, H. F. Drew and Dr Snow; vice-presidents: The Mayor (Mr J. F. Lillicrap) and Messrs H. R. Dundas, F. J. Loughlan, Eustace Russell, Charles Gray, I). W. McKay, F. A. Barclay and A. H.
