SOUTH SCHOOL

MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE. The usual monthly meeting of the South School Committee was held on Thursday. The following members were present: Mesdames Parkin and Garrett, Messrs Harbord, Carman, Patton, Manson, and A. W r . Jones (Chairman). Mr T. D. Lennie sent an apology owing to his being out of town. The Headmaster’s report stated that the number of scholars on the roll was 654, and the average attendance 607. Mrs Hannah was acting as relieving teacher in Miss Ramsay’s absence. Mr McKenzie’s class of boys held a concert in aid of funds to procure football boots for their team. The concert was a great success. This football team, B. grade was doing some excellent work, but had been greatly handicapped in wet weather for want of boctball boots. So far the South Juniors and Marist were in the Junior Competition. They beat Bluff last match.

It was decided to have the bannerette which was presented to the South School by the ladies of the town on Anzac Day enclosed in a glass case and placed in the main entrance hall of the brick school. It was also decided to organise a cocoa club for junior scholars who did not go home for lunch. The young children will now obtain a cup of hot cocoa during the winter months provided at the expense of the committee. It was arranged to hold the school concert in Stobo Hall next Tuesday when a very attractive programme will be presented by the children themselves. The committee noted with pleasure the increase in the contributions of the stationery money sent in by the parents. The girls’ hockey team has been supplied with a full set of hockey 'ick o , and the boys of the football team now b- 0 ” given jerseys and football boots. It was arranged also to supply t fant room with extra furnishings to the value of £lO. Accounts amounting to £24 were passed for payment.
