THE LATE NIGHT
MEETING OF BUSINESS MEN. At the invitation of the Saturday halfholiday Association a meeting of business men was held in the Y.M.CA. last evening to consider several matters relating to the late night. Mr C. Patton presided over an attendance of fourteen. The chairman explained that the Saturday Half-Holiday Association had accomplished what it had set out to do, but was desirous that matters should run smoothly now that the change in the half-holiday had been effected, and at the request of several local business men had agreed to call the meeting. He understood that there was some difference of opinion in the retail trade in regard to the late night and there were some who preferred some other late night than Friday. It was also desired to have the railway time-table altered to suit the changed conditions, and it was for those present to consider what steps should be taken in this respect.
Mr W. Thomson said that he had not heard any dissatisfaction expressed in regard to Friday as the late night, and so far as his business was concerned it was the most satisfactory. He moved that the late night be observed on Friday. Mr Henderson seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. Messrs J. McCrostie, W. Thomson and A. Cutt were appointed to wait upon the Railway Department with a view to having the time-table altered.
