ITALIAN ARSENALS
HANDED OVER TO A CONSORZIA. PROFIT SHARING SYSTEM. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Reuter’s Telegrams.) ROME, June 16. The Government has decided to cede to a consorzia of iron and steel workers, the arsenals at Naples and Venice and arms factories at other places. The Consorzia corresponds with the British guilds, and is controlled jointly by the owners and workers. It aims at distributing the profits to effective workers and converting warlike establishments to the production of peace-time industrial machinery and railway material; also the construction of a number of steamers. It is arranging for the demolition of enemy ships and the transformation of warships into merchantmen. As the result of the agreement, the consorzia’s workmen have increased in number from 7000 to 25,000, while co-operative organisations under its control have increased from 10,000 to 18,000.
