ELECTRICITY PLANT

TURBINE GENERATOR ARRIVES. Several months ago the Town Council placed an order with the British ThompsonHouston Company for a steam turbine-gen-erator to be installed at the electricity works. After several delays this has now arrived and it is being unloaded at Bluff frori the Piako. It is hoped to have it installed by the end of July. This additional piece of plant will give the department 1000 kilos and 1500 h.p. more than it has at present, and will therefore provide means for the extension of ths lighting system that have been lacking in th< past. With t.he advance of time the need for extending the system is being borne gver more strongly On the Council, requests for extensions coming before almost very meeting. Already it is committed to supply Winton from the Invercargill switchboard conditional on Winton arranging with the Power Board for the erection of the poles and waring.
