RURAL EDUCATION
PROPOSED COLLEGE AT WERAROA. (Special to the Times.) WELLINGTON, May 13. The Minister of Agriculture stated to-day that he had planned emie time ago to place an agricultural college on the Government farm at Weraroa. Lack of money was delaying the scheme, but he hoped that before long he would be able to establish an institution that would cooperate with the Education Department in training young farmers and checking the drift of population to the towns. The census returns were showing that this drift was increasing, and undoubtedly it was a most serious matter for the Dominion. It was useless to ask Ministers to spend much money at present, but he hoped that as the slump had come quickly so it would pass quickly. He was strongly of opinion that more would have to be done in the way of agricultural education.
