FIRE BRIGADES
ANNUAL CONFERENCE. (Per United Press Association.) NAPIER, February 28. The forty-second annual conference of the United Fire* Brigades Association of New Zealand opened here this morning, the president, Mr C. Goodwin (Akaroa) being in the chair. There were 130 delegates present. In welcoming the delegates the president mentioned the executive had been sucessful in securing a grant of £lOOO from tha Insurance Council and an increase in subsidy from the Government from £3OO to £lOOO in demonstration year and £5OO in conference year. The report of the executive reviewed the work of what was termed the most successful year in the Association’s history. Inspector Hugo attended the conference and indicated that he would have something to sify at a later period. The grant to sub-associations running demonstrations in the “off” year was fixed on a basis of £1 for £1 up to £5O. Captain T. J. Watt, the secretary, was appointed travelling advisory superintendent. . I’he remainder of the business to-day coiw sisted of making alterations to the rules and attending to other formal matters.
