BLUFF FLOWER SHOW
A SUCCESSFUL EXHIBITION. The spring ■‘■how of the Bluff Horticultural and Industrial Society was held in the Drill Hall yesterday afternoon and evening. The exhibits throughout were very good, both as regards quality and number. Mr Lennie judged the cut dower section, and reported very favourably on the display. The Campbell medal, donated by the Invercargill Horticultural Society, for 12 narcissi, 2 of each variety shown separately was won by Mr A. Lister, who also secured the special prize for (he greatest number of points in classes 1 to 20, with Mi) point-.. Mrs 1!. Ballentyne was 'second with 9 points, Mr T. W. Wheeler third with 71 points and Mrs T. Stewart fourth with “points. Mr Lister also annexed the special prize for premier bloom of the show with a trumpet variety, Duke of Bedford, and also for short cut. variety, with a Dante bloom. Premier bloom, medium cut, was won by Mrs Pastier with a Bernardino, Special prize for most points in classes 21 to 09, primroses ami other spring flowers, was won hy Mrs T. Stewart. Other awards were as follows: —Decorated table, Miss Wootton l.Miss M. Cruickshank 2, Mrs T. Wheeler 3. Best col lection of wild flowers, Edith Walker 1. Housewife's table, Mrs Dawson, Ocean Beach Most points in fancy work, classes Cl to 77, Mrs B. Hailey. Most points in baking classes, 7S to 104, Mm A. Bailey; classes 88 and 89, Mrs A. Hailey.
.lunvenile classes-Most points in children's cooking, classes !()(» to 111, Agnes Niven ; most points in decorated Unral work, classes 11:* to 120. Jessie Boyland; most points in school work, William (Jockl S;k?iircr; best essay, Standards 3 and 4, Francis Taylor; best essay, Standards o and (i, Helen Davis; pencil drawing, pen drawing end shaded drawing were all won by Cherrie Lindsay. Mrs E. Perry was judge of the decorative and floral sections, Mrs Pearce of fancy work. Mrs Stronach of baking, and Mr Featherstone of school work. The Bluff .Marine Band was in attendance during the early portion of the evening and olayed some popular selections. An orchestra under the direction of Mrs T. Stewart rendered appropriate music during the latter portion. A splendid spirit prevailed throughout, and the officials arc to be complimented upon the success achieved.
