FOOTBALL. THE MOASCAR CUT. WON BV CHRISTCHURCH BUS. (Per United Press Association.! WELLINGTON, September 21. The, final match competition for the Moascar Cup was played to-day in pouring rain between the Christchurch Boys’ High School and the Palmerston North Boys’ High School, the first-named being awarded the verdict on a force down. The game, was played in four quarters of twenty minute's each, hut no score having been made by either side, the teams played on until a force down or score showed results, the rules of the competition providing that the side first compelling (heir opponents to force down after the play-off should he adjudged the winners of the match. Within n few minutes after the. play-off fhririlchurch drove Palmerston North on to their own line, and a Christchurch player kicked the bull bard. A race between two opposing players ensuc.fi which ended in Palmerston North forcing in what appeared to be dead territory. The referee (Mr 11. McKenzie, of Wairarapa) decided, however, that a force in accordance with the rules had taken place, and the match was, awarded to Christchurch. Undoubtedly the superior team carried off the honours of the day, as they were superior all round to Palmerston North. In close work they were decidedly better than Palmerston North, and the forwards got round the hall better than their opponents. Christchurch also had the advantage in weight. Considering the bad conditions the game was fast, although clean handling of the ball by the backs was out of the question. Tactically Christchurch had the best of the struggle, for they were attacking three parts of the time. The match was witnessed by the Prime Minister and several members of Parliament, and at the conclusion the Cup was presented to the successful team by Mr Massey, who congratulated both sides on their hard fought exhibition.
