FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. The fortnightly meeting of the Town Council last evening was attended by the Mayor, Mr John Stead, Councillors A. 11. Maekrtll, .1. F. Lillicrap, F.' G. Blake, J. Stc' en.-on, J. A. Doig, E. Sheehan. J. Miller, B. W. Preddy, S. McDonald, J. Mathcson, J. T. Carswell anti J. Martin. CORRESPONDENCE,

The Borough solicitors, Messrs Longuet and Robertson, forwarded a draft resolution amending the special order of the Council in respect of a special loan of £10.700 bearing interest at 5 per cent, for the [iurpo.se of paying off the balance of a previous loan of £12,000. The amendment provided that the loan or any part of it may lie raised by the issue of debentures payable tit any date not exceeding 14 years from the date of issue and bearing interest not exceeding 51 per cent.—Received.

C. H. Bowed, Tisbury, wrote requesting the Council to maintain in good repair a fetirn on property owned by the Corporation at Tisbury. -Referred to Reserves Committee.

The Director of the Southland Technical Collet- applied for the use of the I.C.C. cricket ground and a ground in Forth street between Conon street and Ythau street as a cricket area for pupils attending the, .college. The college was prepared to pay ■ fpr the cost of rolling the ground ami to pay half the. cost of keening the grass cut during the summer. -■ Referred to the Reserves Committee for reoort.

Constable Thompson, South Invercargill, made application for the reward of £5 offered by the Fire Brigade to any person giving information leading to the conviction of any person tampering with an alarm box or giving a false alarm of fire. —It was decided to grant the reward and the Mayor remarked "that the Magistrate would treat such cuscr a> serious.

James King. Duke street, wrote asking the Council to consider the question of making the proposed new road from the reclamation grounds to the Bay road a public road. He also sought information as to what he would be expected to contribute toward? it if such a course were adopted.—■ The letter was referred to the Harbour Committee.

The Superintendent of the Fire Brigade recommended the Council to appoint J. Hahcrfield ns a member of the Brigade.—■ Recommendation approved. James Eumsden, chairman of the Railway League, forwarded a circular urging the Council to press upon the Government the desirability of keeping faith with those petitioners who had requested the Government to proceed with the'construction of the proposed Wrights Bush to Drummond railway line. The petitioner? had kept faith with the Government, and had so completely fulfilled the conditions required of them that they were justified in believing that a grave injustice was being done them. —The letter was received and referred to the Finance Committee.
