MBONTHLY MEETING
I Th° moi’thiv meeting of the Education Board was held ; n the Board's room yester- : day, present—-M<??«rs .1. Thompson (chair!. E. Vi'. Gresham, J. D. Trotter, John MaeG'bbon. D. ( '-ilchritt, A. J. Nichol and P. A. J ce la Perrelle. The Director of Manual Instruction, stated in his renort that the cookery classes had concluded their first term, and the second term would be commenced immediately. The new woodwork ami cookery rooms in Don street were not yet completed mid temporary arrangements had been made in the meantime. During the month Mr E. C. Isaac, the department’s inspector, had visited the district and expressed satisfaction with the classes he inspected. It was decided that the committee of the Oreti Plains school be offered on the usual conditions for subsidies half cost of the erection of a of honour, the total cost not to exceed £22. A resolution was passed that application be made to the Commissioner of Crown Lanas to set aside one acre of the education reserve, adjoining the south boundary of the present school grounds, as an addition to the Waikiwi school glebe. It was decided that in reply to its commwication, the Canterbury' Board of Education be advised that, w hiic not approving of agriculture being made an optional subject of handwork this board has resolved that the Education Department be asked to reinstate the regulat/ n whereby, in schools under the charge of a sole teacher, good theoretical and practical work in agriculture may be counted as both science and handwork.
