The Marine Court of Inquiry found th* charge against Captain George Bates, master of the Westralia, of having recklessly or carelessly navigated the vessel was sustained. In view of his previous record and bis behaviour, and also that of the crow after tkt occurrence, the Court derided not to deal with his certificate, but censured and cautioned him.
