CLOTHING CLUB

ANNUAL REPORT. The 36th annual report of the Sixpenny Clothing Club states that the practical work of the Society is still carried on by members and friends, who meet every Thursday afternoon to cut out and make up garments, and give out clothing to those in need. The club relieves cases of distress all over Southland, parcels of clothing having been sent during the year to Gore, Woodlands, Lumsden, Nightcaps, Dipton, Bluff, Riverton, Waikawa, and Stewart Island. The committee felt the pinch of the increased cost of clothing. The two largest items of expenditure during the year were those for blankets, £3B 14s, and boots, £56 18s 3d. An appeal is expressed in the report for more workers for which there is said to be an urgent need. Despite the inability of callers to make their collections during the epidemic months the collections for the year almost equalled those of _ the previous year, subscriptions and donations totalling £125 5s 6d. No less than £66 ITs has been spent on clothing, £56 18s 3d on boots and shoes, while £2O 2s 4d had been expended in other directions leaving a balance of £lB Is 5d in the bank. The thanks of the Society are expressed to “Mr Stewart for the use of his premises during the past year; to Mr Strang, Tay street, for his untiring kindness and obligements to the Society; Mrs Watt and Miss Niven for use of machines; the collectors who so generously gave their time to collect; the subscribers for their prompt and regular payment of subscriptions; Messrs Leary, Cuthbertson and Webb for auditing the books of the Society; and the Education Department for its handsome donation of woollen garments.” _____________
