MINESWEEPING

NOTHING FOUND IN NORTHERN FIELD. (Per United Press Association*) AUCKLAND, August 18. The minesweepers Geranium, Mellow and Marguerite, arrived from the northern minefields yesterday. The Geranium and Mellow went from Wellington to the North Cape, and the Marguerite, which had been at Auckland for docking, joined them there. These vessels spent ten days in thoroughly sweeping the mine-fields for any stray mines laid by the raider Wolf, but did not find any. This search ends the vessels’ minesweeping work in New Zealand and after a stay of about nine days at Auckland to give the crows liberty , they are to sail for Sydney via Wellington. From Sydney, it is understood, they will go to sweep for mines oS Gabo Island, and that will complete their work with the present crews. The vessels then will probably be handed over to the Australian Government and the crews will be sent back to England.
