ABOUT PEOPLE
A Press Association message from Sydney states that Lord Jellicoe left for New Zealand on Saturday aboard the New Zealand.
A Press Association message from New York says that Carnegie’s funeral was simple. There were no pall-bearers and no sermon. He intimated that the family and the household employees only should attend the interment, which took place at Sleepy Hollow, near Tarry town. Dr Merrell, a New York Presbyterian pastor, officiated. The Hon. T. M. Wilford informed a Wellington reporter that he intends to stand for the Hutt seat at the coming elections. Mr Wilford* says that there had been a rumour that he intended to stand for Wellington North, probably because a deputation had asked him to do so. He had also been asked to stand for Wellington Suburbs and the new electorate of Rotorua, but he had never had any intention of standing for any other seat than Hutt. There died at Feilding recently in her 80th year Mrs S. A. Monckton, widow of the late Dr. F. A. Monckton, formerly provincial surgeon of Southland and a- Crimean veteran, but later of Feilding, who predeceased her seven years ago. The late Mrs Monckton spent most of her life in New Zealand, having come from Ireland to Auckland with her parents in the early fifties. She and her husband enjoyed much of the pioneer life of this country. She was, widely known, and her kindness endeared her to her many friends. She leaves a family of six, two sons and four daughters; Major the Hon. C. A. W. ,Monckton, East Yorks Regiment, is one of the sons, and Mrs Frank H. Cooke, of Palmerston North, one of the daughters. Messrs P. B. and R. B. Cooke, of Wellington, are grandsons of the deceased.
