Received May 2, 9,20_ p.m. Soldiers and sailors stormed the May Day labour demonstration in Madison Square. Police reserves dispersed the crowds, who left three dead. At Cleveland I.W.W. riots were started, when soldiers seized a reH flag carried in the procession. AMERICA ROOTING OUT ANARCHISTS. WASHINGTON, May 1. Received May 2, 7.40 p.m. As a result of attempts to assassinate prominent Americans it has been decided to round up and deport anarchists and I.W.W.’s and Bolsheviks. The Government is determined to root out the anarchists throughout the country. SCENES IN BRITAIN. I LONDON, May 1. On May Day labour processions were held in London and fhe provinces. There was a complete stoppage of Dublin industry. France was also at a standstill for a day except for Government and municipal services and railways. UGLY RIOTS IN PARIS. MANY HEADS BROKEN IN BATON CHARGES. PARIS, May 1. Received May 2, 11.30 p.m. Infantry and cavalry reinforced the gendarmerie to prevent May Day demonstrators marching to the Place de la Concorde. Firemen turned fire hoses on the crowd who twice broke the military cordons. Many heads were broken in baton charges. Another riotous crowd gathered in the Place de Longera, and shouted “Down with the Government.” The outlook was uglier at nightfall. LONDON, May 2. Received May 3, 12,10 aun. The Paris riots continued at night. The demonstrators attempted to barricade the streets, but mounted troops charged the mob. A great number were wounded, including Deputy Cachen, editor of L’Humanite, and a municipal councillor.
