MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS

WELLINGTON RESULTS. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, May 1. In the Wellington City election the following were elected in this order subject to a recount Messrs C. B. Norwood, L. McKenzie, M. Luckie, O. Hutchison (secretary of the Tramway’s Union), J. O. Shorland, W H Bennett, A. R. Atkinson, G. Frost, P. Fraser, M.P., J. M. Dale, C. H. Chapman, T. Forsyth, W. J. Thomson and J. Glover. Nine old members were re-elected. The new members include four Labourites. Messrs Fraser, Chapman, Glover, and Hutchison. IN OTHER CENTRES. NEW PLYMOUTH, May 1. Mr Burgess was re-elected mayor. All the Labour candidates for the Borough Council, Hospital Board, and Harbour Board were defeated. Rating on the unimproved value was carried by 780 to 593. The harbour loan of £300,000 was carried by a huge majority in town and country. HAMILTON, May 1. The Saturday half-holiday was approved by a large majority. The half-holiday was formerly observed on Wednesday. EKETAHUNA, May 1. There was a full polling, less than 20 available votes being unrecorded. Mr T. Parsons was elected mayor. The poll carried the Wednesday half-holiday. TE KUITI, May 1. Mr G. P. Finlay was elected mayor by a large majority. The Saturday halfholiday was carried. HAWERA, May 1. In the mayoral election Mr Dixon was re-elected. For Patea: Christenson 227, Hicks 136. For Foxton Mr J. Chrisall was re-elected mayor unopposed. Four out of five Labour candidates nominated for the Council were elected. WANGANUI, May 1. In the mayoral election Mr Mackay was returned, 1790, beating Mr Sigly 1472. WHANGAREI, May 1. For the mayoralty Mr John Samuel Dent was re-elected, defeating Mr Donald Alexander McLean by a majority of 100. MATAURA. Out of eleven candidates the following nine were elected: Councillors for the Borough: C. D, McConnell, T. F. Quilter, J. W. Aitken, W. P. Thorn, Ben Downes, J. W. Ingram, J. L. Mitchell, A. G. Sutherland,. Henry Sleeman.
