MAGISTRATE'S COURT
WEDNESDAY, 4th SEPTEMBER. At the Magistrate’s Court yesterday morning, before Mr G. Cruickshank, S.M., the following cases were dealt with: —Richard Anderson was charged with drunkenness. Senior-Sergeant Burrowes said that the man was known to the people of Gladstone as ’’Springheel Jack.” When under the influence of liquor he was in the habit of wandering into people’s yards and frightening them. Defendant would not agree to a prohibition order being taken out against him. He had been previously convicted for drunkenness. He was fined 20s without costs.
For riding a bicycle on the footpath a boy named Eric Barlow was convicted and discharged; Walter Currie, aged 12, was convicted and discharged * Robert Weaver was fined 10s without costs; Harry Green was fined 3s and 7s costs; George Lyons was fined £1 and 7s costs; A. Sbirreffs was fined 3s and 7s costs; Robert Telfer was fined £1 and 7s costs; Isaac McQueen was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence; Fred Jones, aged In, was fined os without costs; Robert McLeod was fined 10s and 7s costs; E. Stock was fined 5s without costs; Robert Jenkins was fined £1 and 7a costs; Archie McLean was fined £1 and 7s costs; Archie McDonald -was fined £1 and 7s costs. For riding bicycles after dark without lights John McDonald was fined £1; Clarence Gerrard was fined os without costs; Samuel Moore was fined 10s and 7s costs. For failing to have his car properly numbered Joseph Lyons was fined 5s without costs; John Jenkins was fined 5s without costs on a similar charge. For carrying offensive matter out of hours Michael O’Byme was convicted and discharged; Edward Davis was convicted and discharged.
