A list of wounded recently issued contains _ tbe name of Lieutenant A. H. Ell, son of Mr H. G. Ell, ME., of Christchurch. Second lieutenant J. Armstead, 24th Reinforcements, is in hospital at Deronport (England) with slight fracture of the fibula. The appointment of Margaret Jane McIntosh as registrar of births and deaths and vaccination inspector at Waikawa, as from the 23rd inst., is notified in the Gazette. Bishop Cleary is r expected" bank in New Zealand from the Western front very shortly. In Auckland a reception is being arranged. Sergt. Paul McQuarrie, who was invalided home from the Dardanelles, went forward again with yesterday’s reinforcement draft. The erstwhile heavyweight champion boxer of New Zealand, and noted athlete, re-en-listed for a second go at the Hun. Mr D. Alex. Smeliie, who has for some years held the position of first assistant in the local United Friendly Society’s Dispensary, left Invercargill yesterday to take up a similar position with the U.F.S. in Wellington. Mr Aubrey L. Williams, third son of the Rev. W. J. Williams, of Sumner, has been discharged from the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, and has joined his brother. Dr Harold Williams in journalistic work in Petrograd. He spent four years in Russia before tire war, and when war was declared be returned to London and enlisted with the New Zealand contingent. In Egypt he was drafted into the Field Engineers. He went with them to Gallipoli, and after some months was invalided first to Malta and then to Egypt. He was woimded in France and sent to England. On his recovery he: accepted the post of acting-editor of “Chronicles of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force” during the absence of the editor, Trooper Clutha Mackenzie, on a visit to New Zealand. The editor’s return has set him free to take up journalism in Russia.
