' Mr Hughes stated that the shipbuilding scheme ha*d been hung up indefinitely. LIQUOR HEAVILY TAXED. MELBOURNE, August 11. In the House of Representatives the Minister of Customs announced an increase in the import dirty of 3s a gallon on spirits, similar to the excise duty. The beer excise duty has been increased a penny a gallon. It is estimated that the revenue from these sources will be £600,000, which will cover the loss of revenue caused by the prohibition of luxuries.
