Received August 12, 5.5 p.m. Wireless Russian official : Dense enemy waves attacked our positions in the direction of Brody, in the region of the village of Dubzarkov. The battle is progressing. We beat off the enemy southward of the Pruth river, one of our battalions forcing its way into the village of Lukovict, and compelling the enemy to retire. We regained the heights lost on Wednesday south of Wama. The enemy forced the Roumanians to retire south-west of Ocna. A later report states that the enemy's offensive in the direction of Brody was a complete failure. They were everywhere repulsed with great losses. We repelled attacks in the Sereth and Suchava valleys. There were stubborn battles south-west of Ocna, and the Roumanians were forced to retire five versts. The enemy developed his offensive west of Fokchany-Mereshestchi railway, and compelled us to retire across the Suchitza. We repelled attacks eastward of the railway. The battle is progressing. Counter-attacks last evening enabled us to re-cross in places on the south bank of the Suchitza. ROUMANIAN FRONT. POSITIONS BEING MAINTAINED. AGAINST PROLONGED POWERFUL ATTACKS. LONDON, August 11. Received August 12, 5.5 p.m. The Roumanian communique of 10th reports that the Russo-Roumanians are maintaining their positions in the various areas, and are inflicting heavy losses, despite repeated prolonged and powerful attacks, accompanied by asphyxiating gas. The Russians captured prisoners and machine guns, and the enemy is fleeing in disorder. REGENERATION OF THE ARMY. DISCIPLINE RETURNING TO NORMAL. PETROGRAD, August 11. Received August 12, 5.5 p.m. Reports from Headquarters state there is a noticeable regeneration of the army, and it is believed that discipline will be restored to a normal state. GERMAN REPORTS. LONDON, August 10. Received August 11, 5.15 p.m. German communique: There has been a renewal of fighting in the Dvinsk, Smorgon and Brody neighbourhoods. After stubborn fighting south eastward of Czernovitz we penetrated at several points and Stormed several heights between the Trotus and the Putna valleys, despite Roumanian resistance. We took prisoner in the past two days in the Ojtoz Pass sector 1400. Mackensen forced the crossing of the Susita on a wide front. Bitter counter-attacks failed with the heaviest losses. LONDON, August 11. Received August 12, 5.5 p.m. German official: Strong Ruseo-Rouma-nian forces seven times stormed out Suchitza position, but all broke down with heavy losses.
