“If the United States Government had declared war on Germany, even after the finking of the Lusitania, it would have disturbed a real hornet's nest, and serious internal troubles wotdd have arisen," said Mr G. Hall, at the meeting of the Christchurch Overseas Club on Thursday. He added that apart from the feeling inbred in many Americans that wars in Europe were no concern of theirs, the European element in the States were dead against militarism. Perhaps the English-Amcricans were the worst of the whole lot regarding helping their Motherland. But Germany’s submarine campaign of this year had caused a reversion of feeling, and the declaration of war was endorsed by the vast majority of the people of the United States.
