RETURNED SOLDIERS' ASSOCIATION
The usual monthly meeting of the above Association was held in the Soldiers’ Club on Thursday evening. Reports from all parts of the dominion show that the amalgamated Association is making excellent progress, and is doing good work for the welfare of the returned men. The local committee dealt with considerable business relating to its returned members, and it noted with pleasure the Patriotic Association’s efforts during the past month towards assisting the various cases which were brought before their notice. A motion was carried unanimously in regard to the Main Body men still on service, and a resolution was passed that the Invercargill Returned Soldiers’ Association considers that the time has arrived when remaining members of the Main Body should have a good holiday, failing that they should be released from the firing line. During the month under review 20 new members were admitted to the Association, which has now in Invercargill an active membership of 200. When dealing with the matter of finance it was decided that a Skating Carnival would be run by the Association early in September, and the proceeds would go to the Association Funds. Arrangements are already in the hands of a strong committee, and with the able assistance of Mr Dave Robinson, of the Rink, an interesting carnival should result.
