THE ROLL OF HONOUR
PTE D. S. RITCHIE. Private David Sutherland Ritchie, reported died of wounds, was 25 years old. He was born at Tiuiroto (near Gisborne), and was the second son of Mr T. Ritchie, Winton, and brother of Captain T. R. Ritchie, N.Z.M.C, (Main Body), now of Oatlamls Park Hospital (annex of Walton), England. Private 1). S. Ritchie arrived in Winton with his parents 21 years ago, was educated at Winton District High School, after which he joined the firm of Briscoe and Co,, Dunedin. After six years with this firm, he took up sheep-farming at Tokomaru Bay (Auckland). He enlisted with the 17th Reinforcements (Southland section), and after being wounded twice, somewhere in France, he was reported dangerously wounded in the chest and back, nt Messines, and taken to a Boulogne Hospital, finally being transferred to Walton Hospital, where he improved slightly, but complications set in and he died on Sunday, August 5.
