HAWKE’S BAY SEAT
THE FIGHT GROWS KEENER. (Per United Press Association.) HASTINGS, March 6. As election day comes nearer the fight grows keener. Public interest is unabated by the retirement of Mr Fraser, who is holding the meetings on his itinerary, but is appealing for support for Sir John Findlay instead of himself. Mr Simpson advertises an invitation to the Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald to attend his meeting to-morrow night to defend himself against the statement made by Mr Simpson as regards the Minister’s methods at the Liberal Convention. The Minister has replied to the challenge by making a statement in the advertising columns of the press. Sir John Findlay replies to his critics to-night, in his second speech at Hastings. To-morrow night, whilst Mr Simpson is addressing his constituents at the Municipal Theatre, the Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald and Mr Fraser will be .addressing a mass meeting at the Princess •Theatre on Sir John Findlay's behalf. Public opinion varies as to what the results will be.
