VALEDICTORY
MR AND MRS McEWAN ENTERTAINED. Prior to their departure from the Home Mission Station at Tuatapere, where they had been for five and a-half years, Mr and Mrs R. D. McEwan were entertained at a social in Cymric Hall, Tu&t&pcro. Mr L. Hill (chairman), expressed regret at losing Mr McEwan as their pastor on account of his going to Dunedin to finish his studies at the Theological Hall. Mr J. J. Hinchcliff, on behalf of the different congregations, Papatotara, Clifden and Tuatapere, conveyed to Mr McEwan their kind appreciation of the great work he had been enabled to do in the parish and of the faithful services to the churches rendered by himself and Mrs McEwan. He then presented Mr McEwan with a purse containing thirty-seven sovereigns. Mrs Hinchcliff, on behalf of the ladles of the congregation, presented Mrs McEwan with a handsome silver tea and coffee service and hot water jug. Mr McEwan, on rising to respond, was vociferously cheered. He thanked one and all for their great kindness to them and for the beautiful presents they had given his wife and himself which they would treasure all their lives. Tea was then handed round by the ladies of the congregation. A memorable evening was concluded by the singing of the National Anthem.
