An Auckland Press Association wire •tales that Mr W, Stewart has resigned his seat for the Bay of Islands owing to private business. Dr A. K. Newman, M.P. for Wellington East, returned to New Zealand by the Manuka from Sydney on Tuesday, after an extended visit to Europe. An Oamaru telegram states that Mr W. E. Searle, who has served a term as councillor, announces his candidature Jlor the Oamaru mayoralty in response to the earnest request of a large and influential section of the community. Mr P. Daly, of Gore, received telegraphic Information yesterday morning from the Minister for Defence stating that Trooper D. Daly was dangerously ill In the 26th stationary Hospital, Alexandria, on March 1, suffering from appendicit's. Trooper Daly is the third ■cm of Mr Daly and enlisted at Lums<ton, where he followed the occupation •f a blacksmith, leaving with the 18th Jlei nforcements.
