The Pateena arrived at Lyttelton at 9.55 a.m. yesterday, and connected with the second express. The Te Anau left Timaru at 5 p.m. on Tuesday for Bluff, where she was due late yesterday afternoon. A disturbance of moderate intensity passed during Tuesday night, and strong westerly and south-westerly winds have prevailed, but with decreasing force. Scattered rain has been reported, especially in districts with a westerly aspect, but conditions have improved generally to-day. Present indications arc for southerly breezes, and fair to cloudy weather generally. The barometer has a rising tendency at present, but is due to fall about the close of the week for the development of an extensive westerly area of low pressure.
