Th<- iinriual meeting of the New Zealand institute was presided over by Professor Benham. it was stated that the Minister for Internal Affairs had agreed that a vote of fllllO for the encouragement of scientific research he entrusted for expenditure to the institute. The president in the address said it seemed to him that the Institute should take a much more active part in urging the importance of better training in scientific methods in secondary schools and in urging on the industrial community tlie need for scientific organisation and co-operation. It was to the institute the Government should be induced to turn for advice and assistance in any matter in which science was involved. Tlic matter of scientific afforestation was one that demanded immediate attention. ilegrel was expressed that the erection of the new museum had been postponed.
