The oat market is still bare of supplies, and there is practically none arriving from the country. Business is very slow, the demand from Live North Island being small. North Island merchants are probably getting their orders for odd lots fulfilled from Canterbury. it is difficult to obtain any accurate ideas of valims, hennas e rneivhants' opinions differ materially. A's, however, are worth about 3/2 to 2/2, Lo.b.. s.i. The latest Government contract for oats was placed at —600 sacks of A Gal lons, 2.2; 500 sacks B Sparrows ,2/2 Rd, f.0.b.. s.i. There is not much doing in the chaff market. Consignments are in excess of requirements. Prime quality is worth £1 10/- to £1 12/6. CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS. CHRISTCHURCH, January 27. flats are in fair supply, but the demand is not keen, and farmers endeavouring to do business on the same terms as were obtainable this time hud year are unable to pla< >• their produce. January 27. There is practically nothing doing in oats. Most of the threshing seems to be in wheat ami ryegrass. -The market for oats is very firm, ami good heavy Clintons would bring 2/3 to 2/3, on trucks, country stations, for prompt delivery, while dark heavy Duns are worth 2/7 to 2/S; lighter quality about 2/1, on trucks. The potato crops are looking fairly well, hut it is reported in isolated cases that blight has made its appearance.
