On the motion of Messrs Stevens and Findlay, it was decided to minute the Board’s appreciation of the action of so many of its teachers in signifying their willingness to attend the physical culture classes now in progress. A QUESTION OF CONVEYANCE. Mr Thomson re-opened the matter of those children travelling from Wakapatu to the Colac Bay school. Once they had been allowed to travel one way on the goods train but now that privilege was not granted them and. as the ordinary train did not suit, they had to walk home. He had mentioned their case before and had suggested that the Department he asked to consider whether it could not see its way to Increase the conveyance allowance for children in such a position. That suggestion had been acted upon, but had the department replied*’—The secretary read the department’s reply in which they offered to waive their rules and pay an allowance for the single journey half (3d) of the usual daily return allowance. Mr Thomson said that of course that was no good, but it seemed to him . that the department should be more considerate in such cases, especially when the railway department refused to carry the children on goods trains. If the children in ouestion were granted a travelling allowance of Is per day they could doubtless obtain carriage, hut not lor less.
