Mr C. J. Hewlett, who has been clerk of the Court at Palmerston for many years, has been promoted to Invercargill. The Yen. Archdeacon and Mrs Richards, of St. John’s. Invercargill, returned on Thursday by the second express from Christchurch, where, for the past four weeks, the Archdeacon has had charge of the Rev. Mr Fitzgerald's parish. The latter gentleman has been officiating at St, John's.

Latest advices from Home state that Brigadier - General Braithwaite, C.M.G., D.5.0., has taken over the command of the New Zealand Forces at Sling Camp, Salisbury Plain, and Colonel Smyth has taken the former's place in France. Major Roby, who has also been stationed at Sling Camp, had a stroke of illluck early in November. He stopped to speak to an officer, who was on horseback, when the horse reared up, and kicked him, breaking his right arm. Ha was treated in the Codford Hospital. Mr S. 13. Macdonald, local manager for the United Insurance Co., has received notice of his appointment as South Island Inspector for his company, with headquarters in Dunedin. The appointment is what may be termed a war one, and Mr Macdonald will retain charge of the local branch, in consequence of the company’s staffs being so depleted by the absence of men on active service.

Hon. C. M. Luke and Mr E. C, Brownell, national secretary of th« Y.M.C.A., are expected to arrive in Invercargill on Monday. They are visit* ing the south as a deputation from 11)0 V.M.C.A. National Committee on business connected with the war work of that organisation. Mr Kersley, acting chairman, and Mr Brownell completed their official tour as far as Dunedin, when the Hon. C, M, Luke took Mr Kersley's place. These gentlemen will meet the local Board of Directors and a number of representative citizens on Monday evening.
