TRADE UNION CONGRESS

MINISTRY OF LABOUR FAVOURED. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, September 6. The Trades Union Congress has opened in Birmingham. Mr Gosling, who presided, welcomed the American, Canadian, French and Belgian delegates. He contrasted the patriotism of the workers with that of the food exploiters. He demanded the creation of a Ministry of Labour, that the old age pension limit be reduced to sixty years, and that the pension be increased to 10s per week. At the Trade Union Congress, Mr Bowerman slated that the authorities had given a satisfactory assurance regarding the civil employment of soldiers. Mr Smillie insisted that soldiers so employed should have full civilian rights. A resolution was passed in favour of the appointment of a Labour Minister.
