WALLACETOWN STOCK SALE. A FAIR YARDING. GOOD FRICKS MAINTAINED. There was a good attendance at Wallacetown yesterday f«»r the fortnightly sale, and the entry was a good one, both numerically and in point of quality. The weekly sales at Wallacetown have undoubtedly come to stay, and the results have proved most gratifying to those who promoted the innovation. FAT CATTKK. There was a very good yarding, and tile quality, all over, was of the best that has been seen at Wallacetown for some sales past. There were a goodly number of pens of very deceru bullocks, anil one or two pens were of first-class quality. The demand all through was very good, although at the commencement it was a little easier than it was a week ago. It improved, however, towards the middle of the sale, and this Improvement lasted to the end. Butchers were out to buy, and freezing operators were also present, but the latter were not successful in making purchases. Prices ruled as follows:—Ox beef, 45/to 16/11; heifer, I.'!/, to 43/6; cow, 12/to 4 2/ 6. FA’j: SHEEP. There was a fair yarding. Some good quality stuff was forward, including three or four pens of outstanding quality. The demand was good, but butchers were not purchasing so freely as they bad been a week ago, and, if the yarding had been so large as at the previous sale prices would certainly have receded, .\fiything sold well, up to 38/3 being obtained for two pens, but the majority of the yarding was of medium quality. Freezing operators were on the job, and the whole of the yarding was disposed of. Prices ruled; Extra prime wethers, 36/6 to 38/3; prime, 33/to 34/-: medium, 2!)/- to 31/-; prime ewes, 26/- to 27/-; medium and inferior, 18/. to 21/-. STORE CATTLE. GRAIN AND PRODUCE. (Per United Press Association.) ('ll IHST( 'HI'IK'H, July 25. The cahie mes-ace from Melbourne announcing that, the Wheat Board may reduce the prict of wheat It) about 4 - has had a disturbing effect c-i ire local market, ami both millers and merchants have ceased buying for the time be ng. The doubt that has been In farmers' minds as to the position of wheat hi the spring will ho strengthened by the cheapening of wheat in Australia and the pos-ihilitv of both wheat and Hour being exported to the dominion. A deputation of Canterbury wheat-growers will wait upon the Premier and point out the seriousness of the position, and it is probable that an increase in import duties will he asked for to prevent the dumping of wheat and flour into the dominion. There is no change in oats or chaff, the latter being in limited demand. The potato market is dull. A few purchases are being made at 6/- at country stations, but grower.-, are not selling freely in the hope that the market will recover next month, when stocks now held in Auckland are reduced. At present the prices offered by Auckland merchants for new business would not warrant £6 being paid at country stations.
