Received July 20, 9.10 p.m. In the tight on tho Lipa the Russians forced the enemy's lire at 3 o'clock in th? morning of the 16th, wading under machine-gun and rifle lire through water and marsh above their waists, and reaching to their armpits. The engineers laboured under heavy shell tire to construct a bridge to enable the cavalry and guns to cross in pursuit of the enemy. The Austrian end of the bridge was a horrible place, congested with the dead, dying, and horribly wounded men. Many of the Austrians were apparently wounded by their own guns in attempting to prevent the bridging of the river. Tho Austrians’ now simply refuse to fight after the initial resistance, and prefer to surrender in blocks rather than risk being cut to pieces on the retreat. AUSTRIAN REPORT AMSTERDAM, July 20.
