Macintosh, superintendent in Xew Zealand for Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., has 4 intimated to his board of directors in London his intention to retire as soon as arrangements can be conveniently made to relieve him. These,, he expects, will be effected at an early date. Mr Macintosh has held the position of superintendent for eight years past. The death is announced of Gunner John Charles Thomson, son of Mr J. C. Thomson, M.P., for Wallace, at the Military Hospital, Greytown, aged 22. Gunner Thomson was a pupil of the Southland Boys' High School for four yea is. On leaving school he entered the Lands and Survey Department, and at the time of his enlistment was surveying in the Western District. The funeral will take place on Sunday afternoon at Riverton. On Wednesday evening Mr .1. Wishart was farewelled by the residents of Ryal Bush, prior to his departure to join the 17th Reinforcements. Mr J. Hamilton who presided, delivered an address after which Mr A. Stevens, on behalf of tint district, presented Mr .Wishart with u handsome dressing case. Messrs Sclirooder, Fow-ler, and H. Blakie also spoke. The departing soldier then made a suitable response. Songs were sung by Miss Bert, Mrs H. Gilmour, and Messrs O. and K, Xing, and P. Schroeder, and a laughable farce was put on by the young ladies. Mr Wishart carries with him the host wishes of all for his safe return.
