RED CROSS WORK
BRANCH AT AIATAURA ISLAND. A meeting of the ladies of Mataura Island aud district, to take steps to form a branch of the Red Cross Society, was belli last Thursday afternoon, in the schoolhouse. Mrs W. Couser (Robinhood) was voted to the chair. The attendance, numbering 20 ladies, was considered most gratifying, and auguring well for the future of so useful and desirable an institution as the meeting had in view. Two delegates from the Invercargill Centre, in Airs T, ,S. Hiller and Miss Kynes-Clinton, were present, and imparted to the meeting a good deal of/valuablo information. Airs Couser was elected president of the branch, and Miss A. Gray was elected secretary. Ale.sdames Kirkland, sen., and G. Dickson, and Hisses Bella Graham and W. Gray were elected cuttersout, and deputed to get the material ready for sowing with all despatch. A collection taken up in the room to raise funds for the purchase of material, realised the exceedingly creditable sum of £7 15s. A very enthusiastic meeting closed with a hearty vole of thanks to the Invercargill ladies for their presence and help. EDKN DALE DONATIONS. Airs Niven wishes to state that she has now a ituantity of wool which she will be pleased to distribute to those willing to knit.
