There were no shipping movements »t this port yesterday. At 2 o'clock on Friday afternoon the New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Rimutaka arrived at Auckland from Condon, via Capetown and Hobart. She has a large quantity of cargo to discharge at Auckland, and is due at Wellington about the 17th March. Advice has been received by the local cilice of the F. and S. Cine to the effect that the chartered steamer Opawa, en route from Liverpool, left Sydney on Thursday morning for Auckland, Wellington, Cyttelton, and Dunedin. She is due at Wellington about the 20tb March. According to advices received from San Francisco by the last mail, the following sailing vessels have been fixed at extraordinary rates to load barley at San Francisco for the Pnitcd Kingdom of the Continent; —The ship Tamar, 1951 tons register, at 115/-, by Messrs Balfour, Guthrie and Co. The ship Bel ford. 1771 tons register, at 115/- per lon, by Messrs AVestrope and Co. The four-masted barque Owecnce, 232 4 tons register, at 125,- a ton, by Messrs Hinds, Ralph, and Co. Another sailing vessel (name not disclose*! I at 110/- per ton, by Messrs Balfour, Guthrie arid Co. Tlie steamer Korderdale, recently acquired by the Donaldson Line, has had her name changed to Tritonla. and the steamer Hen of Ruthven, owned by Fnrncs. Withy and Co., has become the Wyncote. -SHIPBUILDING IN 1915. The rate of progress in merchant ship construction in the United Kingdom lias been very much reduced by circumstances arising from the war, and there has been a corresponding decrease in the output of new vessels. The annual summary by Lloyd's of shipbuilding in 4915 states that, excluding all vessels not intended for merchant purposes, 927 vessels of 65i),9t9 tons wore launched in the I'niterl Kingdom during 1915. The output shows a decrease of ), f| 32.69l tons on that of last year. Practically the whole of the tonnage launched is composed n f steel steam tonnage. Three vessels exceeding 10,000 tons, of which the largest was one of 19,100 tons, were launched. Six vessels were fitted with Parson's steam turbine engines, and two with internal combustion engines. Outside the United Kingdom there were launched during the year 416 vessels, of 550,719 tons. -The figures show a decrease of nearly 59 per cent, compared with these for 1314, but they are incomplete, tlermany, Austria-Hungary, and Belgium not being included.
