GRAND THEATRE. AN ASTOUNDING SENSATION. This afternoon will see yet another big film triumph released at the popular Grand Theatre, which has apparently secured an endless supply of huge picture successes. Tiie bright particular star of an exceptionally good constellation of subjects will be the pictured version of Shannon Fife’s red-blooded romance. “The Valley of Lost Hope,” a grand story of real heart-love and surprising adventure a powerful tale of the good, bad and indifferent men and women living on civilisation’s edge in the mining camps of California in the wild "golden days when might was king.” The play is after the manner of , and rivals that popular production. “The Spoilers." It is done in four exciting acts "brimming over with novel dramatic surprises.” A wonderful sensation •scene, which roaches a point of awful realism hitherto unapproached, reproduces a stupendous head-on collision between two trains. Of this astonishing section “The Motion Picture World” said: “One searches the history of the screen in vain for a parallel to the terrific head-on collision between two trains. The effect was electrical.” No less than four celebrated firms of film makers, Vitagraph, Lubin, Selig, and Essanay, combined to produce this remarkable; work, which is unquestionably the best of its kind. Romaine Fielding plays the hero. The supporting list is exceptionally strong and includes: “Queen of the Band,” an exciting "detective” drama, “Mr Santa Claus,” a Vitagraph comedydrama with a big reputation, "Cliffs and Caves of Flamhorough Heads” (scenic), "The Highwayman" (comedy), and the latest Australian Gazette and Cartoons. The usual splendid attendances are sure to result.

POPULAR PICTURE PALACE. “THE NIGGER." Tiie management lias been successful in securing tiie above-named play, which is in six-parts, and it will be screened for tiie first time in Invercargill Oils afternoon at 2 o'clock. "The Nigger” is said to be the finest photo-play written by an American that lias ever been produced, and has caused much discussion and controversy amongst students of racial and social problems. The great problem which one day, sooner or later, America must face is the racial problem, and it is doubtful whether education, the great factor in the uplifting of humanity and the leveller of all classes, has solved tliis question; in fact many eminent students of sociology insist that education of the coloured races has only served to increase the danger which threatens the white population of America. Edward Sheldon’s play deals with this great subject in a powerful fashion, and. Ills work gives ample proof of his store of knowledge on sociological subjects. William Farnuin. IHe eminent American actor, present the part of Philip Morrow, who, on the eve of success ami high position, falls a victims in ii i e sins of his forefa (hers. Space will not allow of dealing comprehensively witli ihe pint of the play, which inusi he seen and seen again to fully realise the depth of meaning and truth which it conveys to tin- intelligent mind. It is a colossal pictorial lesson. "The Nigger’’ will lie screened twice nightly, and intending patrons will catcli the second session at il o’clock each evening.
