Mr A. P. Grocn, manager of the Bank of New Zealand at .Wellington, has been promoted to the position of an inspector.

Tho Gazette records the appointment of Mr Robert Triggs as Deputy-Public Service Commissioner. Air Triggs is to act for tho Commissioner (Air D. Robertson) during tho latter’s absence from Wellington.

Recent callers at the Invercargill Tourist Office were Air W. 11. Edgar, exAliuistor of Public Works in the Commonwealth Government, and Air Charles C. Judd, United States of America. The former wrote in tho visitors book "Every prospect pleases.” Air Kollo Vavasour, son of Air H. D. Vavasour, of Ugbroke, Alariborough, who received a commission in the Royal Field Artillery in July last, and transferred to tho Flying Corps in October, lias now received his wings i.e., he has gained his pilot's certificate in a little over three months.

A Blenheim message states : A private cable reports the death at Ismailia of Lieutenant Graham Griffiths, who was thrown from a horse, fracturing his skull. Deceased left with the Sth Reinforcements, and was prompted from corporal. He was a Blenheim borough councillor, a member of the firm of Griffiths Bros., and was a very popular resident.

Messrs H. B. AI. F.R.G.S., Commissioner of Crown Lands, and T. L. Os win. Valuation Department, proceed to Gore by the first express this morning to act as a Commission in connection with the proposal to include a certain area within the boundaries of the Borough of Gore Tho Commissioners will hear evidence in support of the application and also objections.

Air Augustus Ullrich, dho has been guard on the Wyndham branch railway for tho past four years, is being transferred to Auckland City, and leaves today. Air Ullrich has been a civil, obliging and capable officer and we hope (says the Wyndham Herald) he may have success in his new sphere. His successor is Mr J. L. Ryan, from Auckland.

Air W. H. Hemingway, a member of the Council of the N. Z. Society of Accountants and Lecturer in Accountancy and Commercial Law at the Auckland University College (University of N.Z.). is at present on a few days’ visit to Invercargill, and is staying at the Grand Hotel. Air Hemingway, who is accompanied by Air J. J. Rich, of Auckland, is visiting the South In tho interests of Hemingway and Robertson’s well-known correspondence schools.

The death of Airs Otterson, wife of Air H. Otterson, C.M.G., occurred at Wellington on Wednesday. Mrs Otterson had been an invalid for some years. Air Otterson is absent in South Africa at present, visiting a son who is farming. Airs Otterson leaves two other sons, who are at present in Wellington, retuined invalid soldiers, also two daughters, Airs Alaurice Burnett and Aliss Deda Otterson.
