ATTITUDE OF LOCAL BODIES. (Per United Press Association,) TIMARU, February 15. The Timaru Borough Council last evening decided to form a recruiting committee and the Mayor was requested to call a public meeting at which M.P.’s and chairmen of local bodies shall attend and deliver addresses. Generally speaking, the tone of the discussion showed that voluntaryism should be given a further trial. WELLINGTON', February 15. At last night's Borough Council meeting the following motion, in reply to the Recruiting Board’s circular, was carried (not unanimously). "That this Council is still of opinion that the Government > should bring compulsory service into force in this dominion, and for that reason declines to have anything to do wiia the proposed recruiting scheme, so that national service may sooner come to ba the law of the country."
