W.C.T.U.
The first annual meeting of the Invercargill branch of the W.C.T.U. was held at Amethyst Hall. There was a largo attendance of members and visitors. The president (Mrs Win. Paisley) spoke on the good work which hud been done during the year. Tire president also thanked the members for their help at the rest tent and tea-rooms on Show day. Judging by the financial success, the public appreciated the W.C.T.U. effort to provide a good cup of tea. The following were elected for tho year:—President, Mrs Paisley; secretary, Mrs Cowie; treasurer, Miss Pyle; W.K., Mrs Sullivan; press, Mrs Smart. It was decided to send a delegate to the conference to be held at Wanganui in March.
The W.C.T.U. are making a special effort to help our boys at the front, Mrs Cowie starting the list by giving a house in Mary street, to be sold for the fund by Todd Bros., auctioneers, who are giving their services free. Members were given collecting cards, so everyone will have a chance of giving, and we hope the public will give a hearty help on.
