(Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, February 9. Addressing the ordinary general meeting of shareholders in the New Zealand Insurance Company, the chairman (the Hon. S. Thorne George) said: “Your directors, in addition to the ordinary work of the company, have steadily kept in view the rendering of as much assistance as possible to the Empire in its time of peril. We have felt it our duty to invest £BO,OOO in the British war loan, making, with the conversion of our consols, a total holding of £117,867. An additional sum of £7500 has been voted to the New Zealand Patriotic Fund, and we have further included In the proposed bonus to the staff those members who are so nobly doing their duty at the front.” Mr George added that of the officials *io fewer than 82 had gone to the front, and these were retained on the staff on half-pay. The motion for the adoption of the report was carried unanimously. The retiring directors (Messrs T. Buttle, M. A. Clark, and H. Horton; were re-elected. The shareholders heartily endorsed the action of the directors in granting the staff a bonus on account of war-time pressure. LONDON MARKETS. WHEAT, PRODUCE, METALS. Tallow—At the sales 1154 barrels offered, no bids. Quotations are nominally, mutton, fine, 55/9; medium, 50/-; beef, fine, 53/3; medium, 49/-. Rabbitskins—At the sales 2012 bundles were offered to strong demand, and practically all were sold. New Zealand best advanced 3d to 4d; good sorts, 2d to 3d; inferior, Id; Australian best, 2d to 3d; good. 2d to 2V-d: inferior, Id. Copper—Spot, £S9 17/6; tiiree months, £9S 17/6. Pig Iron —£ t 11/-. AMERICAN WHEAT. LONDON, February 9. The American visible wheat supply is 16,401,000 bushels. Chicago-May options, 127•% to 130 VI cents; July options, 120-li to 122“3 cents. THE COPPER BOOM. CAUSED BY YANKEE TACTICS. LONDON, February 9. The copper boom is attributed chiefly to American operations. The Financial News says that, while it is very distasteful to the Allies to pay such inflated prices, there seems to be no way of restraining Yankee boom tactics. The Daily Telegraph attributes the position to nig iron speculative operations cheeking legitimate trading. SYDNEY WOOL SALE, SCOURED TOUCHES 32d. SYDNEY, February 10.
