AOBICTIXiTIISAIi EVENTS FOB WEEK ENDING SEPTEMBER 25. —Friday, September 24. Stock sale at Lumsdcn. WALLACE TOWN STOCK SALE. PRICES WELL MAINTAINED. A LIVELY JIAIIKKT. The attendance at tlie AVallacctown stock sale yesterday was not equal to that at most of previous sates, but the percentage of buyers was just as good. There were si few prospective buyers present from the north who did not operate very largely, in fact their voices were seldom heard. Freezing operators were present in force, and they operated fairly freely, and their bidding had the result of making the butchers, who seemed to be right out of stuff, bid up consistently throughout. The yardings yesterday and for the two preceding sales, as supplied by the yardman, were: Sept. _l. Sept. 7. Aug. 34. Fat cattle .. 220 120 101 Store cattle .. 800 720 020 Fat sheep .. 600 1100 1600 Store sheep .. 700 600 1420 FAT CATTLE.

There was a very large yarding. Tho entry comprised a number of pens of first-class stuff, in fact, in this connection, the yarding was far superior to that which was yarded at Wallacetown six or twelve months ago. This bears out the fact that the remarkably open winter which we have endured has benefited stock to an extraordinary degree. The large yarding, however, had the effect of causing tilings to hang comparatively at the commencement, and tills state of things continued until half tli rough the sale. Thence on good quality stuff bad a great run, butchers and freezing buyers bidding freely. Freezing buyers, especially, were keen, and this is considered to be ;m indication that there are on the tapis further laVge orders lo be received from the Imperial Government. Ox beef is at present ruling at from 4::.- to 44;'- per lOOlbs; heifer, 49/- to It/-; cow. 37/- to 39,-. Some of the sales were;— By the National Mortgage and Agency Co.;— Account W. AVills at £9 17/6. STORE CATTLE. There was a big yarding, principally of small and interiorly-bred stuff, in fact there was only one pen of bullocks forward which could be classed as out of the ordinary. There wore a number of buyers present, too, who wore on the look-out for good big-framed cattle, but a comparatively small fraction of the yarding came under that category. Although the prices on paper appear not to be lug. yet, when the quality of the stuff forward is taken into consideration, the sale has to be classed as a good one all over. There was a good demand for dairy cows, and these sold at prices for good at from £9 10/- to £lO, and for ordinary at from £7 to £7 10/-. All over it Avas a good sale. The local grain market is still in a stagnant state. No one seems to want to buy, and there are no sellers. Continued dry weather, which, if not broken before long, will have a serious effect upon growing crops, is no doubt causing growers to hold more firmly on to their wheat. In the meantime millers appear to be well stocked and are not anxious to buy, even if they could got wheat at a considerable decline upon rates ruling some time ago. Bran and pollard have been reduced, the former now standing at 13 5/-, and tlie latter £6, and even these figures are said to be far i'rom firm.

There ate' few potatoes offering and little demand, growers holding out for £5 as the lowest figure they will take. 1 WO Oil EXPORT.
