Received July 25, 3.35 p.m. ■The Victoria Cross has been awarded to Lance-Corporal Albert Packs, an Australian soldier, for conspicuous bravery at Gallipoli. Lance-Corporal Packa held portion of a trench with four men. They were heavily attacked and when his comrades had been killed seven Turks rushed the trench. Lance-Corporal Packa, single-handed, killed five with ride fire and two with the bayonet. (The High Commissioner gives the name as Lance-corporal Jacka).
