GARDKN FISTE. The garden fete held yesterday, in aid of 1 lie Y.W.C.A., in Mr W. Maealister's fine grounds, was from every point of view a success, and favoured by a perfect summer's day was carried through to a satisfactory conclusion. From 3 o'clock each car came out crowded, and by the time the fcle was in full swing a great number had passed through tlre gates. The grounds surrounding Mr Maealister's residence are spacious, and ample protection from the sun was provided by the trees of the garden, The games, competitions, and stalls were all well patronised, and the V.W.C.A. funds must be considerably augmented as a result of tho fete. A pleasing feature of the day was the music of an orchestra of local professionals. Numerous flower, curio, and sweets sellers made themselves busy the persuasive powers displayed being for the most part irresistible. The numerous workers showed commendable enthusiasm, and the success of the fet<i was largely due to their untiring energies. Tile stalls and side-shows were snugly placed between the trees. Of these the art gallery is to be mentioned in point of novelty and amusement, wliile. tlie fortune-teller (Miss Muir) was also liberally patronised. Tennis, croquet, and putting also took place, and the butterfly hunt was a popular item. Homo 3000 paper butterflies were secreted on the branches of the trees in the grounds, the winner finding the greatest number. The result was: Miss McClure, 1; Miss Prain, 3; Miss Henderson. 3. The stall-holders were as follow: Produce. Mcsdames Macgregor, Parr, McCarrigan, and Misses Officer, August, and Gedncy. Confectionery,— Mcsdames 'Walker, Greenwood, and Misses McLean, Brown, Williamson, and Sbardlow, with numerous youthful assistants. .Soft Drink.—Misses Handford and Latham. Flower Stall. —Mcsdames Longue!, Main, Seareli, and nurse Scarell and a bevy of girls with baskets. Tea Rooms. Mcsdames Konaldson, Macalister, A. M, Macdonald, McClure, ami Hoyles, A large number of girls also assisted in this department, which was one of the most remunerative on the grounds. Afternoon tea was served in a pretty corner of the garden apart from the main portion and surrounded by high-growing sweet peas, which afforded excellent shelter. The art gallery was conducted by Misses Murdoch (3) and Newton. Putting (a popular attraction). —Mrs Prain assisted by Miss Knid Smith. Fortune-teller. Miss Muir.
