Madame Melba has arrived at Fremantle by the Orsova from London. A Rotorua telegram states that Mr J, Pohlen having retired, Mr Ralph Stewart. formerly Inspector of Schools in Auckland, has been selected as the Liberal candidate for Tauranga. Mr H. B. Bowers, who for the last five and a half years has occupied the position of Inspector of Awards In Invercargill. has boon promoted to lake charge of the Labour Department in Ccristchurch and leaves Invercargill towards the end of the month. Mr Bowers has been a very popular official and transacted his business with consistent and conspicuous thoroughness and courtesy. At last nights meeting of the Southland Horticultural Society a vote of thanks was passed to him for tiro assistance he had rendered as an official of that body.
