THE TRAMS.
To the Editor. Sir,—-I see by the latest reports that the tram returns are less than last year. Now, sir, I have no axo to grind in the matter and nothing to gain, as the present terminus at Soutii Invercargill will always be my starting place, but 1 feel sure tit at if the car system was extended clown Moulson street right up to the end of Macquarric street and 3d for fares, it would make all the difference as it would tap the largest population of any suburbs around Invercargill within a given area. The people are there, but it is too far to walk to the present terminus of the car. Perhaps the same may be said at the Waikiwl end. 1 leave that to them, but to my mind it docs not apply to the other termini. The other large towns of the dominion have extended their tram services right out to the seaside places whore there was scarcely a house, but they pick up the people and bring them in. If people want trade they must encourage it, and I hope the Invercargill Town Council will extend the tramway at this end as I am sure it will pav them.—l am, etc., JUMBO. Invercargill, July G. 3914.
